On the Red Carpet: At The 2023 Theatre World Awards

I had a blast covering the red carpet for the 2023 Theatre World Awards which were held at Circle in the Square Theatre on Monday, June 5, 2023. The Theatre World Awards are presented annually at the end of the theatre season to six actors and six actresses for their significant, reviewable, debut performances in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production.

First presented in 1945, the prestigious Theatre World Awards, founded by John Willis, the Editor-in-Chief of both Theatre World and its companion volume, Screen World, are the oldest awards given for Outstanding Broadway and Off-Broadway Debut Performances.

The 2023 Theatre World Award Honorees for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Debut Performance: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Topdog/Underdog), Hiran Abeysekera (Life of Pi), Amir Arison (The Kite Runner), D’Arcy Carden (Thanksgiving Play), Jodie Comer (Prima Facie), Callum Francis (Kinky Boots), Lucy Freyer (The Wanderers), Caroline Innerbichler (Shucked), Ashley D. Kelley (Shucked), Casey Likes (Almost Famous), Emma Pfitzer Price (Becomes A Woman), John David Washington (The Piano Lesson). Julie Benko will receive the 14th Dorothy Loudon Award for Excellence in the Theater, and Brian Stokes Mitchell will be honored with the 10th John Willis Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Hosted annually by well-known theater journalist, Peter Filichia, the 77th Annual Theatre World Awards Ceremony is produced by Theatre World Awards, Inc. / Dale Badway. Tom D’Angora and Michael D’Angora direct the heralded event.
